About Masimo Health App | Freedom Watch
The Masimo Health app is a tracking system that enables users to monitor and display their health, sleep, and activity data through the Masimo Freedom smartwatch, empowering them to take control of their fitness and health wellness.
Masimo has partnered with Google to incorporate its bio-sensing technologies into standardized smartwatch devices. As part of this collaboration, we incorporated Wear OS standards into the design system of the Freedom smartwatch.

My Responsibilities
Collaboration
This is a large-scale project with multiple features distributed among different designers. As the design lead, I took charge of various features across both the app and the watch, while also collaborating with and supporting other designers. This ensured a cohesive and consistent design throughout the project.
Conceptual Design to Execution
Collaborated with the team to enhance the conceptual design and execute it in accordance with the rescope, new features, and feasibility constraints, leading to the successful launch of Phases 1 + 2 of the app.
Initiate Grid System + Design Guideline
Leveraging my experience in design systems, I introduced a grid and layout system to enhance usability and interaction behavior, as well as touch targets for this project. To improve collaboration with the dev team, I created a comprehensive design guideline encompassing UI, interaction behaviors, and micro-interactions.
Design Process Integrated into Weekly Sprints
Initially, this project operated under agile management with weekly sprints, leaving little time for wireframes, research, and usability testings. After collaborating with the Human Factors to outline our design process and explain to the Software Engineer Solution and Upper Management on its impacts, we successfully integrated the design process into the weekly sprints.

Masimo Freedom is a smartwatch that delivers accurate, continuous readings of key health metrics, including SpO2, Hydration Index, Pulse Rate, and more. This smartwatch can also detect users' sleep patterns and track their activity metrics and workouts.

To enter the consumer market, Masimo leverages its industry- leading monitor technology through smart wearables that seamlessly integrate with the Masimo Health app, empowering users with access to personal health data and actionable insights for daily health improvement.

Masimo + Pininfarina
The Handoff
In 2021, Masimo collaborated with Pininfarina design agency to envision and develop the concept and branding for the Masimo Health app and Freedom smartwatch. During 2023, I joined the project when the design was brought back in-house. Our goal was to transform the conceptual design from Pininfarina into execution while incorporating new scopes and directions to enhance the overall user experience, visual, and functionality.

Dashboard
The dashboard offers users a streamlined overview of the latest data on their status of their paired device, live monitoring of their parameters, health metrics, ECG Spot checks, sleep patterns, and activity performance.
Tiles
The tiles offer users easy access to key information, data, and quick actions, allowing them to efficiently view and complete their tasks.
Health
The Health feature enables users to monitor their daily vital measurements and perform ECG spot checks, helping them maintain their health and giving them data and insights into their health status overtime.
ECG
ECG Spotcheck allows users to keep track of their heart health and condition overtime.
Activity
Activity empowers users to track and set goals for their daily metrics and workouts. By reviewing their completed workouts, users can gain valuable insights into their Pulse Rate Zone and monitor their workout consistency over time, supporting their journey in staying athletic.
Start A Workout
Users can initiate a workout on their Freedom smartwatch. During their workout, they have the ability to monitor their activity metrics, view their pulse rate zone, access their workout route on the map, and control the media player.
PR Zone
The Pulse Rate Zone feature enables users to track their workout PR performance through interactive data visualizations that are presented in daily, weekly, monthly and yearly views. This functionality helps users gauge their workout intensity, allowing them to train effectively while still achieving challenging fitness goals.
Workout Trend
Workout trend allows users to track their workout consistency and activity performance over time.
Calendar
The Calendar is a key tool that enables users to easily access their past daily data with a click and view their overall score performance at a glance.

The Masimo Freedom watch and Health app were showcased at CES and various global health conferences in 2024.
We have integrated Wear OS into the Freedom smartwatch and received approval from the Google Design team, which facilitated our partnership with Google in 2024.
The first and second phases of the Masimo Health app have been successfully launched on the App Store, achieving a rating of 4.3 by our users.
User growth from the app launch of phase 1 to phase 2 increased by 38%.
